Mysore Dasara


The Mysore Dasara or the Navarathri is a 10-day festival that falls in the month of September or October. Mysore Dasara is the “Nadahabba” or the State-Festival of the State of Karnataka, called as “Navaratri” meaning Nine-Nights, a 10-day festival, celebrated with utmost spectacle and joy in the city of Mysore. The Dasara festivities have a rich history of more than 400 years.The Navarathri festivities start with the lighting up of the Mysore Palace with 100,000 light bulbs in the evenings for the duration of the festival. It takes place from 7.00 PM – 10.00 PM.

Rosetta captured image


A new image of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko was taken by the European Space Agencys (ESA) Rosetta spacecraft shortly before ending its remarkable 12-year journey with crash-landing on the comets surface on Friday. The final descent gave Rosetta the opportunity to study the comet's gas, dust and plasma environment very close to its surface, as well as take very high-resolution images, NASA said.

BEIJING, CHINA: The world's largest radio telescope began operating in southwestern China Sunday, a project which Beijing says will help humanity search for alien life. The Five-hundred-metre Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST), nestled between hills in the mountainous region of Guizhou, began working around noon, the official Xinhua news agency reported.

Samba is a dance authentic to black/African people in Brazil who brought much of their music and dance culture into Latin America with, them upon arrival into many Latin American countries. Samba music is very similar to and has been influenced by many Angolan music genres. It has also been influenced by many other Latin American music genres and dances. The Samba music rhythm has been danced in Brazil since its inception in the late 16th century.

Corpse Flower Bloom After 9 Years


Hundreds of people flocked to the Gurukula Botanical Sanctuary at Alattil in Kerala state, India to watch this rare flower in bloom. This flower, that stands at almost two metres tall, will last for just 48 hours before it collapses in on itself.This flower, a native of rainforests in western Sumatara, Indonesia, is unable to pollinate on it's own uses its stench of rotting meat to attract pollinators like flies and beetles. The flower owing to its rarity is classified as a ‘vulnerable’ species with the next stage endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

India Launches Record 20 Satellites In 26 Minutes, Google Is A Customer



SRIHARIKOTA, ANDHRA PRADESH: HIGHLIGHTS India's space agency ISRO placed 20 satellites in space today. More than half are for US, only 3 for India. India competing for bigger share of $300 billion global space industry. Shortly after 9 am, India successfully launched a rocket which deposited a record 20 satellites in 26 minutes - proof that the country's famously frugal space agency, ISRO, is headed for a larger slice of the lucrative commercial space market. The rocket blasted off from the southern spaceport of Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh, carrying satellites mainly for international customers including the US, Germany and a Google-owned company. It was the most satellites India has put in space at one go, though Russia set the record of 37 for a single launch in 2014.

 Residents in a Mexican city woke in fright before dawn on Saturday to bright light in the sky and then a thunderous noise, fearing a nearby volcano had suddenly erupted.

But officials said Popocatepetl volcano had not stirred and no earthquake had registered.

Instead, the phenomena witnessed by the inhabitants of Puebla de Zaragoza, a city of three million people 50 kilometers (30 miles) from Mexico City, was "most likely a meteor," the local Astronomic Society tweeted.

The park is also a geologic wonder and contains two of the world’s most active volcanoes. For much of its long history, though, Virunga National Park has been severely threatened by armed conflict. Thanks to the dedication of the park’s rangers and wardens, Virunga has been able to survive.
